The President participated in religious observances at a number of temples in Tangalle.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa who visited the Nakulugamuva Sri Shailaramaya last evening called on the Chief Incumbent of the temple Ven. Urugamuve Ratanapala Thera and thereafter participated in religious observations. He also called on the Chief Incumbent of Sri Pushparama Vihare in Kadigamuva Ven. Pasgoda Samidi Thera. The President also participated in the meeting of the Bhikku Federation of the Southern Province. The President thereafter visited the Henkaduwa Raja Maha Vihare in Tangalla where a number of religious ceremonies are currently being held to invoke blessings on the country. The President paid his obeisance to the Crest Gem placed at the Dhatu Mandira. Blessings were invoked on the President by the Chief Incumbent of the temple Ven. Weeraketiye Nalaka Thera. First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa also participated in the occasion.
Meanwhile the President visited the award winning sculptor Thilak Vidanagamage at his residence in Galagama, Beliatta. Belonging to a generation of sculptors, he has made his contribution to the sculpture of Buddha statues in a number of temples. Secretary to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Wasantha Ekanayake also participated in the occasion.
