Who is the boss who asked for sexual bribe to show tele?
Ranjan's 'dada mas' 'nili mas' story
Member of the Opposition Ranjan Ramanayaka made special revelations about the decline of of the field of tele-drama in the modern day under topic of Culture and Arts Affairs at the budget debate in parliament on December 17th.
He brought out the 'nili mas' and 'dada mas' example to explain the point that nowadays in order to secure 'a good belt' the main actresses have to sleep with the bosses and that money has to be credited to bank accounts. The story is as follows: "Last August 6th the two former President Counsellors and a female member of parliament have gone to Araliyagaha Mandiraya and met our Hon. President and expressed this disaster that is taking place in the field of Arts. Even presented everything in document-form. I'll tell you this ... this is not a case of slinging mud .... this is a message of fright. Today, even in the balcony there are artistes. They too requested me to tell this. This then is the true story. What has happened today? How much effort do our artistes use to get a tele-drama broadcast! Today to show their tele-drama they have to give a bribe. Hon. Chairman, there is a certain Minister. I spoke about this twice at the counsellor's board. I told it when queen of actresses, Malini Fonseka was present. What is this frightening news that I am going to tell you?
Today, 'dada mas' and 'nili mas' is solicited. What is this 'dada mas'? What is this 'nili mas'? 'Dada mas' is asking Rs. 50,000 be paid for a single episode, like for a fine and asking that it be credited to an account in Kandy. I am saying this with great responsibility.
The name of the Kandy account in one particular Foundation. Now for this Foundation .... 50,000 has to be contributed. Hon. Minister Nimal Siripala ... this is dirty work and it must be stopped. The Hon. President is aware of this. Malini Fonseka also knows about it. The President's Counsellor Ravindra Randeniya too knows about it. Rohana Weerasingha too is aware about it.
Why is Rs.50,000 charged from those innocent artistes for an episode? Why is this 'dada mas' taken?
(question)
What is this thing called 'nili mas? 'Nili mas' means that the main actresses are told to be brought for a 'jike'. This is a funny situation. The main actress is called ... and 50,000 is wanted.
(disturbances)
No ... no, you have diabetes. It's not you who asked ... it was a Deputy Minister who asked. This is the latest situation.
I am asking from our Minister of Arts Mr. T.B. Ekanayaka, our Minister Keheliya Rambukwella if he knows about this, if the Minister of Information knows about this; if anybody sells his name and takes this money .... we of course don't know ... I won't say it's him ....
(question)
Then who takes the actress?
The actress too is taken ... that also of course has to be asked from the crowd in the Field of Arts. This is the bitter truth that everybody knows.
Anura Priyadarshan Yapa: If he says the name of someone in the gathering here, that must be asked in a way it can be answered by him.
Dpty. Speaker: If a name of any Hon. member of parliament is mentioned, such names, I decide have to be removed from the parliament list.
Ranjan Ramanayaka: Hon. Chairman, today we have the subject of Culture and Arts. That Minister is compelled to be present in the audience. If he doesn't turn up, when can we tell his name?
Then to whom can I present this problem relating to this Field? Then shall I tell the name of a secret stranger?
(Someone says Rambukwella)
As soon as his name is mentioned, our Thilanga Sumathipala starts threatening. Starts threatening those newspapers. A very pathetic state of affairs.
