The Sri Lanka Army debunks allegations that it had used chemical weapons.
Military Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya said that various human rights allegations were being levelled against Sri Lankan Security Forces targeting the Human Rights Council sessions slated to be held in Geneva in March. Addressing a media conference held in Kollupitiya, Brig. Wanigasuriya described these allegations as baseless and fabricated.
The Military Spokesman mentioned that the Sri Lankan troops launched operations against the ferocious tiger terrorists for more than 25 years. He asserted that the troops did not on any occasion use chemical or illegal weapons. The troops always used weapons in conformity to international conventions. These were selected with minimum power and in proportion to the day to day requirements. He totally rejected the baseless allegations made sans any evidence or data. He added that such accusations were being made targeting the Human Rights Sessions planned to be held in Geneva in March.
