Dark Memories on 25th January

The blood thirsty LTTE cadres as in every day of the year carried out their terrorists activities to the maximum also on the 25th of January throughout the fear psychosis period. It is clearly depicted in this episode when reminiscing the cruelty displayed by them throughout 30 years.


The ruthless tiger terrorists launched an attack in ambush in the Piyangala areas and killed two war heroes on the 25th of January 1996. On the same day, the LTTE terrorists displayed their brutality to the world in the Eravur area. In the attack unleashed by them the terrorists killed three members of the Security Forces. It was on a day like today that the remorseless LTTE terrorists mooted an attack on the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, the most venerated Sacred place by the Buddhist the world over. The attack was carried out in the year 1998. Nine Sinhala civilians died in this attack mooted by the terrorists whose sole intention was to incite the Buddhists and transformed the country into a stream of blood.

Kopay South was the next target of the terrorists on 25th January 1999. Two war heroes died in this attack. In the year 2006, on a day like today, the terrorists attacked Jaffna in which two brave soldiers made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the country. These merciless tiger terrorists attacked the Udayarkattukulam area on 25th January in 2009. As a result four war heroes gave up their lives on behalf of the motherland.

On the same day these tigers displaying their brutality to the world mooted another in the Klaveddaithida area taking away valuable lives of nine gallant soldiers. Vishwamadu was the next target of the terrorists also on the same day. Nine war heroes died in this cruel assault.

Accordingly when taking into consideration these ruthless attacks, the terrorists had killed 12 civilians on the 25th of January throughout the dark era. The number of soldiers killed by them was 52. Thus they had taken away a total of 64 lives on this day. If this thirst for blood by the ferocious terrorists was not brought to an end at the Nanthikadal Lagoon on 18th May 2009, the country would have definitely transformed into a land of the dead.

The dedicated services of the war heroes succeeded in enthroning peace in the motherland and help the nation to live in a calm environment sans any sound of gunfire, mainly due to the unwavering decisions taken by the prudent leadership the President Rajapaksa who is the Commander in Chief and the proper guidance given by Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Out gallant soldiers during their genuine humanitarian operation, were able to liberate more than 300 thousand innocent Tamil civilians who were caught up in the brutality of the terrorists. Even during a war, our war heroes were Able to display to the world how the fundamental rights of the people could be safeguarded. Many had been severely hurt by this lesson. Particularly local forces against the country as well as the alien forces who could not bear this achievement.

As such these corrupt forces are demanding human rights reports and inquiry reports on the war from the Head of State and also the war heroes who enthroned real peace in the country. But it has already been proven to the world that human rights were being flagrantly flouted by countries such as Britain and the United States which are demanding human rights reports from Sri Lanka.

The heroic soldiers sacrificed their lives to liberate the nation from the terrorists. The time has come for the entire nation to rise up against elements besmirching such soldiers.

The incidents that happened during the fear psychosis period depict the ruthlessness of terrorism. The gallant members of the Security Forces who were caught up in this brutality are being reminisced to the country as well as the world. You may possess a valuable photograph of your son, daughter, brother, relative or neighbour. If such photographs are being dispatched to us, it would be a duty that you would be fulfilling on behalf of these heroes. As such it would be one of your prime obligations if you could send such photographs so that these could be displayed to the entire world. Send such photographs, may be that of a war hero or an innocent civilian who sacrificed their lives in the face of terrorism. Despatch such photographs to us.
