The Health Ministry has pointed out that a decision will be taken after a meeting of the Food Advisory Committee on the permission sought by a milk powder importing company to destroy 130 metric tons of milk powder.
This stock of milk powder had been imported before July 2013 as small stocks. It was also in July that tests were launched to determine whether these stocks contained DCD. A Ministerial Sub Committee was appointed to take decisions in this respect. The release of the stocks to the market after the tests also took place on the instructions of the Ministerial Sub Committee.
The Company concerned had sought permission to destroy this milk powder as it was not economically viable to conduct tests for DCD since it has been imported as small stocks.
