Monks of the Amarapura Siri Saddhammawansa Maha Nikaya are barred from participating in demonstrations, meetings, unnecessary brawls with the Police and in active politics.
The Ven. Balapitiye Seevali Thera, Secretary of the Amarapura Siridhammawanshika Maha Nikaya revealed to the media the decisions taken by the Maha Nikaya of the Maha Sangha Sabha including the Mahanayake the Ven. Siriseela Visuddhi Thera.
There are 463 Vihares countrywide which come under the purview of the Amarapura Siri Saddhammawanshika Maha Nikaya. There are also around 5000 Buddhist monks belonging to this Nikaya. The Sudharma Karaka Sangha Sabha which met recently at the Mahakappinna Sri Maha Malaka Vihare at Welithara in Balapitiya which is the head office of the Amarapura Siri Saddhammawansa Maha Nikaya had reached a significant decision in respect of the Buddhist monks.
The Sangha Sabha has met under the auspices of the Mahanayake, the Most Ven. Ahungalle Siriseela Visuddhi Thera.
Accordingly the monks of this Nikaya are barred from engaging in demonstrations, meetings, unnecessary clashes with the Police and in active politics. The Ven. Balapitiye Seevali Thera said that action will be initiated against those who act in contrary to the disciplines of Dhamma. The prelate said that this would a paradigm for other Nikayas.
