President Rajapaksa declares open the five-storeyed primary school building complex of the Defence Service College.
The Defence Service College was launched in the year 2007 on the instructions of President Rajapaksa and the guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa with the aim of overcoming the difficulties and obstacles encountered in admitting children of members of the Armed Forces and the Police to popular schools.
The School launched by the Defence Ministry to cater to the requirements of children of war heroes has been established in Kompannaveediya. The students of the College accorded a warm welcome to the President who arrived for the opening of this five storeyed primary class room building complex with a guard of honour by the scouts.
The President vested the building complex in the children by unveiling the memorial plaque. Thereafter he inspected the complex. The 2011/2012 prize giving of the College was held under the patronage of the President. The President awarded prizes to 60 outstanding students.
The Viru Daru Piyasa magazine was handed over to the President. A memento was also presented to the President marking his arrival at the school. The President also launched the website of the Defence Service College.
Deputy Minister Mohanlal Grero, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Chiefs of the Armed Forces, the Inspector General of Police and School Principal Pramuditha Wickremasinghe were among the large gathering present.
