Dark memories on 22nd February

The destruction unleashed in the motherland by the ruthless tiger terrorists with the intention of ruining the country is inestimable. If the war heroes did not initiate action with supreme sacrifices to annihilate terrorism under the prudent leadership of the Commander in Chief, the country would have transformed into a land of the dead.


These episodes clearly depict the ruthlessness and brutality of the crimes committed by this barbaric outfit.


Heroes of the Police Special Task Force were attacked by the tiger terrorists in the Vavuniya area on 22nd February 1985. As a result eight police heroes were killed in this attack. On 22nd February 1988, another two war heroes died in a terrorist attack in the Anuradhapura area. Two attacks were unleashed by the tiger terrorists in the Kinniya and Chirupiddi areas on 22nd February 1996. Four war heroes who were providing security to the country were killed.


On the same day the terrorists launched several attacks on civilians in the Kebitigollewa, Mahanikawewa and Kinniya areas. 12 innocent civilians died in these assaults. Jaffna was the next target of the terrorists on 22nd February 1997. They unleashed an attack on war heroes on foot patrol. Two brave soldiers made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the country.


The sea tigers unleashed a massive attack on the 22nd February in 1998, targeting a trawler transporting naval ratings. 44 war heroes sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland as well as the freedom of the posterity. These ruthless terrorists mooted several attacks on 22nd February in the year 2009 in the Ambalawanpokkanai, Puthukudiyiruppu and Mullaitivu areas. As a result the country lost the valuable services of 20 gallant soldiers.


The members of the Security Forces pulverized terrorism which plagued the country in this manner from the Nanthikadal Lagoon. 18th May in the year 2009 was the historic day in which terrorism was obliterated from the count. By then the terrorists had taken away a total of 109 lives on 22nd February throughout the dark era. They included 15 innocent civilians, while the other 94 were war heroes.


The heroic soldiers enthroned total freedom in the motherland by advancing in the humanitarian operations, following the direct decisions taken by President Rajapaksa and the prudent guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. The war heroes did so even making supreme sacrifices on behalf of the motherland. In these operations, the war heroes provided a new lessons to the world. It was how to safeguard human rights of the innocent civilians during a war.


The war heroes who launched their operations with a specific target and a plan liberated more than 300 thousand innocent Tamil civilians without causing any injuries or bruises. It was a serious attack to countries such as the United States and Britain which always talk about human rights, with information surfacing in the world about their flagrant human rights violations.


Whatever allegations are raised against Sri Lanka, the citizens are geared to respond to these accusations. These patriotic citizens have already proved to the world that they are always dedicated to strengthening the people’s leader who liberated the country.
