The Elections Secretariat commenced receiving assets and liabilities of candidates. The Elections Commissioner holds a special discussion with Party Secretaries and leaders of Independent Groups.
The meeting focused special attention of the laws the candidates should adhere to in respect of the Western and Southern Provincial polls. It was organized at the Elections Secretariat. Attention was also drawn to the declaration of assets and liabilities of the candidates. Elections Chief Mahinda Deshapriya said that he had already receive d the declaration of assets and liabilities of candidates of political parties.
The Elections Commissioner said that members representing the Government and the Opposition in Parliament had declared their assets and liabilities.
In the meantime, Inspector General of Police N.K. Ilangakoon said that maximum provisions necessary for the conduct of a peaceful election have been finalized. He was expressing views to the media after a discussion held at the Elections Secretariat today.
The Police Chief said that several issues were raised during the discussions between the Party Secretaries and the Elections Commissioner. He said that they gave an assurance that they would do their utmost for the conduct of a free and fair poll.
