Norwegian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Grete Lochen has lauded the development that has taken place in the Jaffna area within a short space of ending the conflict.
The Norwegian diplomat made this comment during a meeting with Jaffna District Secretary Sundaram Arumainayagam. The meeting took place at the Jaffna District Secretariat. The District Secretary apprised the Norwegian Ambassador on the development that has taken place in Jaffna during the last five years. The diplomat enthusiastically made inquiries on the resettlement of the displaced, education and infrastructure development. Mrs. Loche also observed several development projects in Jaffna.
In the meantime the Norwegian Ambassador also had a discussion with Jaffna Bishop Dr. Rev. Dr. Thomas Saundranayagam. The Bishop said that the civilians of the North will benefit only if the Tamil National Alliance worked in cooperation with the Sri Lankan Government. Issues have cropped up as the Northern Provincial Council had adopted resolutions going against the policies of the Sri Lankan Government. The Jaffna Bishop emphasized to the Norwegian diplomat the people will benefit only if the Tamil National Alliance worked with awareness and cooperation with the Government.
