India has emphasized that all parties should join in the Parliamentary Select Committee if solutions are to be found to Sri Lanka’s national problem.
Indian Foreign Minister Salman Kurshid laid this emphasis when a group of Sri Lankans touring New Delhi at the invitation of Indian Government called on him. Solutions can be found to the problem by working together. Accordingly there is an opportunity to secure solutions by getting involved in the Parliamentary Select Committee appointed for the purpose.
The Indian Foreign Minister also expressed views on the 13th Constitutional Amendment. India took the initiative of dispatching the Indian Peace Keeping Forces to Sri Lanka when the country was in need of their services and was thereafter recalled when it was mentioned that their services were not required. Therefore the Indian Foreign Minister said that India had always acted based on Sri Lanka’s needs. He added that the 13th Amendment can be further amended based on Sri Lanka’s needs.
