Next year’s Deyata Kirula in the South

President has given a firm assurance that the Government will continue to fulfil the responsibilities on behalf of the country and the people as in the past.


The President gave this assurance, addressing a gathering after launching development of the Elpitiya-Pitigala Highway.


Many road development activities were launched this morning under the patronage of President Rajapaksa with the aim of creating a more developed road network under the Mahinda Chinthana Future Vision.


In parallel to these activities, the President declared open the Pitigala-Pelawatte Highway reconstructed at a cost of 1080 million rupees. The road which is about eight kilometres includes three main bridges. The new road will be of immense benefit for the large number of people in the area to meet their daily requirements.


The President also launched the development work in respect of the Pitigala-Elpitiya Road. The expenditure to be incurred on this work is 1484 million rupees. Work on this 13-kilometre long road is expected to be completed by next year.


After being aware of the arrival of the President for the launch of these development schemes, the people of areas such as Pitigala, Elpitiya and Pelawatte gathered in large numbers at these locations to welcome the President. The President did not forget to exchange pleasantries with the crowds.


Thereafter addressing a public meeting, President Rajapaksa said that development was not limited only to one Province. These activities have been launched throughout the country. The President revealed that the next Deyata Kirula National Development Exhibition which had already been staged in many parts of the country will be organized in the South.


The President said that the Government is discharging a significant service to the area. His intention was to host the Deyata Kirula Exhibition next time in the South. He told the gathering that they could reap its benefits too. Electricity has now been provided to the entire South. Many are accusing him that development was being carried out only in the South. Refuting these allegations, the President said that he was doing his best to the entire country.
