Geneva conspiracies build misconception among the people of the South. Don’t be deceived – President

The President has said that conspiracies are taking place in Geneva to build negative views among the people of the South. Addressing the people in Galle, the President called on them not to be misled by these conspiracies.


The launch of development work on the Galle-Udugama road took place this morning under the patronage of President Rajapaksa.


The Galle Udugama road which is about 35 kilometres is being developed by widening it to eleven metres. The estimated cost is 4600 million rupees. A mammoth crowd joined in the public meeting which followed the launch of the development work.


Addressing the large gathering President Rajapaksa said that the Government vehemently deplored the local as well as foreign conspiracies mooted against the war heroes and the administration.


The President said that programmes are being mooted to provoke the people. Foreign forces are geared to interfere in the country. He said they called on these countries not to meddle in internal affairs of the country. Permit the people to elect their own leader and also to carry forward their activities. The Government enthroned freedom to the Tamil civilians in the North while permitting the Southerners to live without fear and suspicion. He said they strongly deplored the programmes mooted against the Security Forces. The President asserted that the nation is prepared to face any challenge in the face of justice and they had the full trust in the people to move forward identifying their needs.


Many Southern Province people’s representatives including Senior Minister Piyasena Gamage, Project Ministers Nirmala Kotalawala and Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody, Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama, Parliamentarians Manusha Nanayakkara, Ramesh Pathirana and Mohan de Silva and Secretary to the Ministry of Highways R.W. Premasiri were among those present on the occasion.
