The President observes the construction of the stretch of the Sri Jayawardenepura Colombo highway with the Polduwa new bridge. Immediate action was initiated to open with immediate effect for traffic the stretch of which construction was completed.
President Rajapaksa observed the stretch constructed from the Parliamentary Roundabout towards Colombo along the Sri Jayawardenapura-Colombo highway. Thereafter he gave instructions to the officials concerned to open it for traffic with immediate effect.
The Polduwa Bridge which is 70 metres long was opened for traffic. Work had been completed on 260 metres including the access road which has three lanes. The second stage also with three lanes is being constructed in parallel and the work is due to be completed by September this year. Two pavements are also being constructed.
The expenditure incurred by the Government on the road is 2000 million rupees. It also solves the flood situation as well as the congestion on the Parliamentary roundabout road.
Project Minister Nirmala Kotalawala, Kaduwela Mayor G.H. Buddhadasa, Sri Lanka Freedom Party organizer of Kotte Rohitha Bogollagama and Secretary to the Ministry of Ports and Highways R.W.R. Premasiri joined the President in this inspection visit.
