President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge has pointed out that the Government had already completed the implementation of a considerable number of recommendations made by the Lessons Learnt Commission.

There are 285 recommendations put forward in the ninth chapter of the final report of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission. The President’s Secretary said during an analysis it was possible to file them to 144 recommendations. The LLRC Commission was appointed in May 2010.

The report was compiled in November 2011 and it was possible to forward the report to Parliament in December the same year. The President’s Secretary emphasized that the Cabinet of Ministers vested in him the task of implementing the recommendations of the Report in May 2012. Representatives of the Cabinet endorsed in July 2012 the National Action Plan for the implementation of 91 recommendations of the report of the Commission.

The Cabinet granted the nod in July to incorporate 53 recommendations in the National Action Plan. Accordingly President Secretary Lalith Weeratunge mentioned that 144 of the recommendation incorporated in the National Action Plan were being implemented collectively or at the institutional level with the contribution of 26 state establishments. Pointing out that this situation was referred to other countries when he went to Geneva last month, the President’s Secretary revealed that he met 130 Ambassadors during that visit.
