The World Cup stadium in the Amazonian city of Manaus was inaugurated with a ceremony and test match in front of a crowd of 20,000 fans.
The stadium is the eighth of the 12 World Cup stadiums to be officially handed over with construction still underway in Curitiba and Sao Paulo, which will host the opening match on June 12. Some 7,000 of the 20,000 fans present for the test match were workers and their family members. The remaining 13,000 tickets were sold at open admission.
The pitch will recycle rainwater to be used in stadium bathrooms while the roof will collect the Amazonian sunlight to generate power.
