Terrorism was a curse to the country. It was fast spreading like a pestilence. But the country succeeded in uprooting it from the country due to the immense dedications made by the war heroes under the prudent and dynamic leadership of the President who is also the Commander in Chief. If not the terrorist outfit would have been mortal threat to the country.
The ruthless tiger terrorists took away the life of a war hero in the Ichchalanpattu area on 06th March 1991 and thus embarked on their killing spree on this day throughout the dark era. On 06th March 1997, the terrorists shocked the entire country by unleashing a powerful attack on the Army Camp in the Vavunativu area. As a result 75 war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the country.
On 06th March 1998, the terrorists mooted a claymore mine attack targeting a vehicle in which war heroes were travelling. The incident happened in the Puliyankulam area. 10 war heroes were killed in this attack. In the year 1999 also on a day, like today, these barbaric terrorists unleashed two attacks at the Oddu Sudakara and Matarakulam area taking away the valuable lives of four war heroes.
Three brave soldiers were killed in the Aandankulam area on 06th March 2008. These war heroes were on foot patrol. On the same day these cruel tiger terrorists targeted an attack in Kokkuthuduwai killing two war heroes.
Terrorism which scourged the country in this manner was subdued on 18thMay 2009 from the Nanthikadal Lagoon. By then these merciless had taken away 110 lives on 06th March throughout the fear psychosis period. This included three innocent unarmed civilians. The other 107 were members of the Security Forces. The war heroes who advanced in the humanitarian operations due to the initiatives taken by President Rajapaksa with the prime intention of uprooting terrorism from the country succeeded in vanquishing terrorism.
This significant achievement was a serious blow to certain local as well as foreign forces, as it totally obstructed their avenues of achieving parochial aims. These valiant soldiers discharged these tasks on behalf of their motherland adhering to the Geneva Conventions and the international war regulations while at the same time protecting human rights. The war heroes succeeded in providing a new lesson on human rights to the world by liberating more than 300 thousand innocent Tamil civilians from the clutches of the terrorists.
It is explicitly clear that countries such as Britain and the United States are attempting to prefer accusations on the violation of human rights against such a group of soldiers, mainly due to their deceitfulness. Whatever baseless and unfounded allegations are made by local as well as foreign conspiratorial forces, the people are ready to face any consequences with the State Leader. As such these so-called forces should understand that they will not succeed in their attempts to cause any harm to the State Leader or the valiant soldiers.
Many have sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland. We do not possess photographs of all those who made supreme sacrifices. As such we appealed to you to dispatch to us such photographs. We are satisfied that you had responded to our call and are still responding. The photographs that we received had already been displayed to the world through this segment.
