The Minister of Prison Reforms has said that the Bogambara Prisons which was emptied will be open to the public for two weeks from the 15th of this month. He mentioned that initiatives will be taken to maintain the archaeological value of the buildings.
Minister Chandrasiri Gajadheera was speaking at the media conference held at the Prison Reforms Ministry today. It was announced at this meeting that the Bogambara Prisons building complex is due to be entrusted to the President on the 18th of April for development. Minister Gajadheera said that the Prison Complex was located near the Sri Dalada Maligawa and it was not proper to have such a complex near the Dalada Maligawa.
The Minister spelled out at the media briefing to newsmen the many initiatives mooted by the Government on the behalf of the welfare of the prisoners. At the same time, the Minister added that the actions adopted to change the attitude of the officials.
Deputy Minister Chandrasiri Muthukumarana, Commission er General for Prisons Chandraratne Pallegama and Commissioner General for Rehabilitation Jagath Wijetilake were present at this media briefing.
