The Sri Lanka Freedom Party Lawyers Association has said that the United Nations Human Rights Commission is functioning today in a manner obstructing the development of Third World countries. It is sad to note the Resolutions presented by this Commission look at the developments taking place in Sri Lanka in a negative manner.
Addressing a news conference organized by the National Collective of the Lawyers Association at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo today, its Deputy President Bandula Wellala said that the Geneva Sessions are being held to destabilize and topple Governments in Third World countries, instead of talking about human rights.
Mr. Wellala said that resolutions brought forward by countries such as the United States in particular obstruct development in the developing world. There is a difficulty in launching development projects in the Third World as a result of these Resolutions. Small countries are launching these projects with foreign loans while facing immense difficulties. He added that it is unreasonable to move resolutions against a country which subdued a terrorist outfit considered indomitable instead of exalting the country.
