Minister Bandula Gunawardena has said that an environment in which due respect is given to religion should be created to groom a generation that loves its country and nation.
The Education Minister was addressing a ceremony which followed the opening of the reconstructed Buddha Mandiraya of Ananda College Colombo. The College is about 128 years old. A small Buddha Mandiraya was built at the College in 1929. Thereafter a Buddha Mandiraya on the model of the Mulagandhakuti Vihare at Saranath in India was built. It was then reconstructed incurring an expenditure of nearly 30 million rupees.
The work was carried out with the support of the Past Pupils Association and the Buddhist Society of the College. The reconstruction took place under the guidance of the Ven. Diviyagaha Yasassi Thera and School Principal Kithsiri Liyanagamage.
Members of the Maha Sangha including the Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter, the Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera joined in the offering of flowers at the Buddha Mandiraya after its opening.
