The period granted for the public to visit the first stage of the Colombo Outer Circular Road drew to an end today.
The Second Stage of the Outer Circular Road will be vested in the public within three days.
The first stage of the 11 kilometre Colombo Outer Circular Road from Kaduwela to Kottawa is scheduled to be declared open on Saturday the 08th. The public were given an opportunity of visiting this stretch of the road from yesterday and today before the opening. Cart races and walks were some of yesterday’s highlights. Similar competitions were also held today.
The Second Stage of the Colombo Outer Circular Road will run from Kaduwela to Kadawatha while the third stage will be from Kadawatha to Kerawalapitiya. The total distance will be nearly 30 kilometres. It is the intention of the Highways Ministry to accelerate the work on the second and third stages of this Road network. The main purpose of the construction of the Colombo Outer Circular Road is to provide easy access to suburbs avoiding traffic congestion within the City of Colombo.
