President Rajapaksa pays obeisance at the historic Jaya Sri Mahabodhi in Anuradhapura.
The President visited the historic Jaya Sri Mahabodhi in Anuradhapura this morning and paid obeisance and secured blessings. Religious observances were conducted by the members of the Maha Sangha including the Acting Chief Incumbent of the Atamasthana and Chief Incumbent of the Ruwanweliseya Chaithyarama Temple the Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera. Chief Incumbent of the Mirisaweti Vihare the Ven. Ethalawetunuwewe Gnanatilake Thera, and Chief Incumbent of the Lankarama Temple the Ven. Ralapanaawe Dhammajothi Thera.
After securing the blessings of the Maha Sangha, the President exchanged pleasantries with devotees who had come there to worship the Jaya Sri Mahabodhi.
President Rajapaksa then joined in religious observances at the Ruwanweli Seya and made inquiries into the wellbeing of the devotees who had gathered there.
The President paid a courtesy call on Acting Chief Incumbent of the Atamasthana the Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera and engaged in a brief discussion.
Ministers Tissa Karaliyadda and S.M. Chandrasena, North Central Governor Karunaratne Divulgane and Chief Minister S.M. Ranjith joined in the occasion.
