President Mahinda Rajapakse has rejected the UN Human Rights Council resolution ordering a war crimes probe.
The President told the French News Agency that he would instead press ahead with his own reconciliation plan. He said the resolution only hurts Sri Lanka’s reconciliation efforts and does not help it. In a phone call, the President told AFP that he is not discouraged but will continue with the reconciliation process that is ongoing.
The President mentioned that he had drawn comfort from India’s abstention in Geneva. He said he considered it is encouraging that India did not vote against Sri Lanka.
