Temporary Identity Cards will be issued for the forthcoming Provincial Council polls to consolidate the identity of the voters.

Applications for the issue of temporary Identity Cards will be received only until the 21st of this month. These Identity Cards will only be issued on behalf of voters who do not have any document to prove their identity. Those who require such temporary Identity Cards should duly fill the related application form and submit it with two photographs of which the size should be that of a National Identity Card photograph with the certification of the Grama Niladhari Officer.

The required instructions can be secured from the Grama Niladhari Officer or the Superintendent of the Estate concerned. The Elections Commissioner had already apprised the people of the many documents that could be used to consolidate the identity of the voter. Among them are the National Identity Card, a valid passport, a valid driving license, the public service pension identity and the Adult identity. Also the identity issued to the clergy as well as the temporary identity card issues by the Elections Department can be used in the consolidation of the identity of voter at the polling booth.
