The total kilometres of Expressway constructions and carpeted roads within two years has been 7000.
The road development programme has been launched veering all districts within the island. The Ministry of Highways and Ports and Shipping said that 7000 kilometres of carpeted roads and expressways had been newly added to the national road network. The total expenditure incurred on this work was 600 Billion rupees. The Southern Expressway.
The Colombo-Katunayake Expressway and the Outer Colombo Expressways have been added to the national road network. Also many “A” Grade roads had been carpeted and totally developed. It is planned to build the Colombo-Kandy, Colombo-Hambantota and Northern Expressways in the future.
Taking cognizance of these developments, the Government had made arrangements to draw up a new national road map. It is planned to release the new national road map which will include the Expressways by the last week of next month.
