The President says that the Commonwealth should be a beacon of hope to the people. Leaders of the Commonwealth should work to strengthen quality of human capital and to develop relationships between the people. The Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival organized with the aim of celebrating the cultural diversity of Commonwealth nations, was held at the Temple Trees under the patronage of President Mahainda Rajapaksa and the First Lady yesterday. The President greeted all those who were present to celebrate Sinhala and Tamil New Year. Former Maldivian President Abdul Gayoom, diplomats and a large gathering were present on the occasion.
