Six suspects including the mastermind of the five million rupees cash robbery in the Matugama area are in Police custody.
Addressing journalists at the Police Headquarters in Colombo today, Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said the Police have recovered four million rupees from the possession of the suspects.
The Police Media Spokesman said that the Police have managed to recover over four million of the five million rupees stolen from Matugama in Agalawatta area yesterday. Police have now recovered four million rupees of the missing money after arresting the two suspects allegedly involved in the robbery.
The two suspects are 21 year old Dumindu Chanchala Herath from Hanwella and 20 year old Sujan Subash Perera from Boralesgamuwa. The two suspects had received information regarding the money from a carpenter who was later revealed to be the brother of one of the security officers travelling in the van transporting the money.
Meanwhile, the main security officer 27 year old Gihan Rajapaksha along with two other guards, the van driver and the carpenter have been arrested along with the two suspects accused of the robbery. The Police Spokesman added that security guards have the right under the law to use their weapons during situations such as this and were not merely employed to open doors and direct vehicles.
