Four Sri Lankans who attempted to smuggle in gold have been apprehended in India.
Three Lankan women were nabbed at the Bangalore Airport in India for attempting to smuggle in 169 kilograms of gold. They were apprehended by the Central Industrial Security Force. Indian Customs officials are probing the incident.
In the meantime, another Sri Lankan who attempted to smuggle in gold to India was taken into custody at the Thiruvananpuram International Airport yesterday. The value of the 360 gram gold was reported to be 1.1 million rupees. Indian media reported that the suspect had attempted to smuggle in the gold by concealing the haul in his baggage.
