President Rajapaksa has said that no room should be left for forces to destabilize the country. He requested the Trade Union leaders to portray the strength of the working class to the entire world on May Day. A meeting of Trade Union Leaders was held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday under the patronage of President Rajapaksa. The Trade Union Leaders apprised the President of several issues that have surfaced in different spheres. The President told them that he valued the unstinted support extended by the Trade Union Leaders as in the past, to the programmes mooted by the Government to build the country. Certain groups are determined to reverse the development programmes that are taking place and destabilize the country. The President said that everyone should be cautious about it. Expressing their views at this meeting, the Trade Union Leaders emphasized that it is the President who had safeguarded the dignity and pride of the public sector employees. They claimed that the President will go down in history for rendering a significant service on behalf of the public service which was curtailed by previous regimes. The Trade Union Leaders deliberated on the challenges confronting the country. Several Parliamentarians were also present at this discussion.
