President Rajapaksa begins his official tour of Bahrain.
The President who left the island for Bahrain on a two day official visit reached the Manama capital this morning. The President was accorded a warm welcome at the Airport by the Prime Minister of Bahrain Khalifa Bin Salman Hamad Al Khalifa and Governor of Muharak Salman Bin Hindi. This is the first time that the President is visiting Bahrain.
The President will engage in bilateral talks with the King of Bahrain Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifah during this official tour. Several MOU’s dealing on a number of fields are expected to be inked. A leading delegation from Sri Lanka is accompanying the President.
The President and the members of this delegation are due to attend a meeting with the Bahraini business community. President Rajapaksa is also due to meet the Sri Lankan community in Bahrain.
Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris, Deputy Minister Sarath Weerasekara and President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge are also accompanying the President.
The Kingdom of Bahrain is a small island located in the Persian Bay. It is enriched with oil and very recently it has made large scale investments in Banking, Financial and tourism schemes. It also has a fast developing economy in the Arab world.
Official ties between Sri Lanka and Bahrain were launched in 1992.
