Army Commander Lt. Gen. Daya Ratnayake has emphasized the need to impart
to the world genuine information about the heroic soldiers who subdued the world’s deadliest terrorists.
The Army Commander made this observation joining in a ceremony to award certificates of competence to 47 Army personnel who followed a one-month media training. The Course was jointly organized by the Information Department and the Army. The aim of this effort was to provide a wider perspective e and exposure to the fast changing subject of Mass Communication and Media. The Army Commander pointed out that certain elements attempted to take the war heroes to the War Tribunal due to their lack of knowledge on media.
The Army Chief said that they succeeded in routing the world’s deadliest terrorist outfit through a humanitarian operation.
Soldiers with the weapon on one hand and the Humanitarian Charter on the other hand were deployed to the war front. It is these heroic soldiers, who liberated the civilians through a humanitarian operation, that some are attempting to take to the War Tribunal. When analyzing the reasons for this, it was found that the real concept of ending the war had not reached the world. If so the Army Commander said that no one would have been able to denigrate the country.
Director General of the Information Department Prof. Ariyaratne Ethugala also expressed his views on the occasion.
