Construction work on the new Commercial and Housing Complex Project gets underway mooting the first stage of the Kompannaveediya Reconstruction Programme.
The construction of the New Commercial and Housing Complex was launched with the participation of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Chairman of the Urban Development Authority Nimal Perera and its Director General Harshan de Silva.
The Urban Development Authority has already embarked on a number of development project within the Colombo City. The related Memorandum of Understanding was inked by Managing Director of the Tata Housing Development Company Bartein Banerjee and Chairman of the Urban Development Authority. It is planned to build 96 Super Luxury houses within this complex. The total estimate of the Project is 420 million US Dollars, including the 6.5 Billion Rupees required to hand over the news houses equipped with all facilities, to the recipients.
During the period in which the construction of the Project is in progress, the settlers will receive a monthly rental from 15 thousand rupees to 52 thousand rupees, based on their land area. The settlers in this location staged a protest against the project in the past after being impelled by the Opposition. Under these circumstance, the Urban Development Authority said that a delay resulted in the launch of the project due to these false allegations.

At this media conference Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Tata Housing Development Company Brotein Bannerjee made a presentation of the Project which provides the infrastructure required by Sri Lanka to meet its economic targets.
