Today is the historic day which marks the end of the 30 years of war.


It is written in the history forever. May 18th has been registered in the dark memories during those three decades of darkness. One soldier was killed during an LTTE attack at Kanaranatham on 18th May 1983. LTTE terrorists attacked soldiers on Jayasikuru operation at Vavuniya on 18th May 1997. Eight soldiers sacrificed their lives to the territorial integrity of the country during that attack. The country lost two soldiers when LTTE terrorists launched an attack at Murunkan on 18th May 1998. A claymore mine of LTTE terrorists took the lives of nine soldiers on 18th May 2001 at Anandai-puliyankulum. On 18th May 2008 LTTE terrorists launched a mortar attack at Periyamadhu killing four soldiers. LTTE terrorists exploded a land mine at Palam-pindi killing two soldiers on 18th May 2008. 15 heroic soldiers sacrificed their lives on the same day for the territorial integrity of the country when they ambushed the troops at Mannar. On the same day LTTE terrorists launched a shell attack and killed eight soldiers. The LTTE terrorists who were furious in the face of defeat due to the humanitarian operation on the historic victory day, launched an attack killing 16 heroic soldiers, on the same day 12 soldiers lost their lives during an attack at Mullaitivu. Another six soldiers were killed on the same day at Vellamulli Waikkal. When terrorism was eliminated by the 18th May 2009 100 people including 98 soldiers and 2 civilians had been killed by LTTE terrorists on that day. The country would have been on a blood bath if not for the heroic soldiers who marched forward under the brave leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and on the correct directives of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was able to end terrorism by eliminating the brutal killer at Vellamulli Waikkal Nandikadal lagoon. The people in the country are enjoying true freedom for the last five years. The present government led by the peoples President has been given permanent freedom. However local and foreign elements are attempting to destroy that freedom. They are making wild allegations against the heroic soldiers who rescued the country. The dark memories have recorded the biographies of the heroic soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the true freedom of the country. Those memories are eternal. The heroic soldiers who saved the country are immortal. The eternal memory of the heroic soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, is recalled in the dark memories for the country and the world.
