The Inter City train operating between Colombo Fort and Kandy gets a fully air conditioned luxury compartment. The import of such a luxurious air conditioned observation compartment costs around 40 million rupees. However this observation car has been produced at the Ratmalana Mechanical Workshop of the Railway Department. The cost incurred was only around 3.5 million rupees.
The Inter City Express train with the new luxurious observation car left the Colombo Fort Railway Station for Kandy this morning. Warrants issued for Public Servants can also be used to travel in this observation car.
Minister Kumara Welgama joined in monitoring the new service. He also made inquiries into the services imparted at the Colombo Fort Railway Station. Expressing his views on the occasion, the Transport Minister insisted the need for such a programme for the promotion of the tourism industry.
