The Bharatiya Janata Party led by the National Democratic Alliance has secured a landslide victory in the Indian General Elections.
According to results announced so far the BJP has won 338 seats, while the Congress Party has secured only 59 seats. Other parties have won 146 seats. Only 272 seats are needed by a single party to form a Government without the support of other parties. Accordingly Narendra Modi can form a Government sans bargaining with other parties. Congress strongholds Rajasthan, Karnataka and Bihar have shattered in the elections. Narendra Modi is expected to take oaths as the next Indian Prime Minister on the 21st of this month.
Meanwhile, President Rajapaksa extends his warm greetings to Narendra Modi who has won a landslide victory in the Indian elections. According to results of the Indian General Elections the Bharatiya Janatha Party has secured a resounding victory.
Extending his congratulations to India’s Prime Minister elect Narendra Modi , the President said that this is a fine opportunity to further consolidate bilateral ties between the two countries. President Rajapaksa also invited him for a state visit to Sri Lanka.
