Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara has said that it would have been a more meaningful step if the Northern Chief Minister joined President Rajapaksa in the oath-taking ceremony of India’s new Prime Minister. Expressing views in this respect he claimed that it value would further enhance in the future.
The Minister pointed out that the Sri Lankan President was invited to participate in the inauguration of the new Indian Prime Minister. The President invited the Northern Chief Minister also to accompany him to India to join in this ceremony. But it is known that he had not accepted this invitation.
If the Northern Chief Minister positively responded to this invitation and joined the President in this visit, a joint discussion between the Indian Prime Minister, the President, the Chief Minister would have resulted in a more meaningful step for future. But the Minister added that this has now become futile.
