The attention of the entire world would be focused on Sri Lanka as the 2014 World Conference on Youth begins tomorrow. The colourful opening ceremony which will take place under the patronage of President Rajapaksa, will be held at the Magam Ruhunapura International Conference Centre.
A young male representative, a female representative as well as the Minister in charge of Youth Affairs are due to represent 169 countries of the World Body. Also a large group of youth activists are due to join in the 15th World Conference on Youth to be held in Sri Lanka. President of the United Nations General Assembly John William Ashe and UN Secretary General’s special representative Ahmed Al Hendavi will be participating a special guests. The final rehearsal for the colourful opening ceremony was held at the Conference Centre.
Co Committee Chairman of the World Conference on Youth Minister Dulles Alahapperuma said that the opening ceremony of the conference has been organized in a spectacular manner.
The Minister said that they had come there to observe the final rehearsals of the opening ceremony. They saw how the other activities were taking place as scheduled. The Minister said that as the Co-Chairmen of the Organizing Committee, he and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa are proud of being involved in the holding of an international conference in Sri Lanka
The Conference which will open tomorrow will proceed until the 10th of this month. Various programmes and activities to appraise the foreign youth representatives about Sri Lanka’s culture have also been organized.
Meanwhile, international agencies were vested with the technical division, the uphill task of recently held international conferences. But on this occasion, this task is vested with the Independent Television Network. ITN is geared to provide information on the World Conference on Youth instantly via satellite to all Media Establishments in Sri Lanka as well as worldwide. Manager Engineering Operations P.K. Athukorale clarified the task vested with them.
Mr. Athukorale clarified that it is via an International Broadcasting Centre that technical operations of an international conference is being handled. This Centre will be utilized as that particular international centre. He said that ITN is tasked with all these responsibilities. Any foreign journalists has the ability to secure the visuals they require from this Centre.
Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media and Information Charitha Herath pointed out that they have finalized all arrangements for the successful conduct of the World Conference on Youth. He said that particularly local and well as foreign journalists are able to secure the required information and data from this centre. Especially the live proceedings from Hambantota are received by this Centre. The media is given the opportunity of recording them. He advised the accredited media to make optimum use of the facilities available at the centre.
