The Moneragala District will get 11 bridges under the first stage of construction of 210 rural bridges.
Work on several bridges of the 11 planned for the Moneragala District under the programme of building 210 rural bridges is already nearing completion. It is being implemented under the guidance of Minister Basil Rajapaksa with the intention of linking the village and the town. Work on the bridges at, Balaharawa in Wellawaya, Kudaoya, Randeniya, Hindurukaduwa, Pitadeniya and Pitiyawatte has already been completed.
The work on the other bridges is expected to be completed by September this year. Moneragala District Secretary A. Pathmanathan said that around 300 thousand people will benefit by the construction of these bridges.
There are 1440 villages within the Moneragala District and the number of families that benefit by the Divi Neguma programme is 46 thousand 699.
