The Annual Festival of the Wattapalai Kovil in Mullaitivu, which is honoured and respected by the Hindu devotees commenced today.
The Wattapalai Kannagi Amman Kovil in Mullaitivu in the Northern area occupies a prominent place. The Kovil suffered heavy damage as a result of terrorist attacks during the conflict period.
With the liberation of Mullaitivu from the clutches of the terrorists, the first task carried out by the members of the Security Forces was to reconstruct this Kovil and return it to normality. The Kovil premises and the surrounding environs were totally developed at the cost of the Government. Thereafter the number of devotees descending on the Kovil gradually increased.
The Annual Festival of the Kovil commenced today under the full patronage of the Government. The Festival is also receiving the contribution of the Security Forces. Measures are in place to provide food and drink to devotees visiting the Kovil free of charge while all their other requirements are also been met.
