Collective among communities to safeguard peace

A collective among communities is launched to safeguard peace to the maximum in areas affiliated to Aluthgama and Beruwala.

A special discussion was held at the Kalutara District Secretariat this afternoon with the participation of members of the Maha Sangha, Islamic Moulavis, the Prime Minister and several Parliamentarians.


Parliamentarians said that several decisions were reached at this discussion.

Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzie called on everyone to work together. The Muslim and the Sinhala communities lived together for a long period in amity. He apologized if harm was caused to any in this sudden incident. He mentioned that their desire was to live with everyone in unity and brotherhood. He said that the Police would discharged its duties to the maximum to safeguard the temples and the mosques and also extend security to the people and property.

Project Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena pointed out that they received the blessings of the honorable members of the Maha Sangha. They extended their support to sort out the issue. Also the Muslim priests pledged their support. They also received the blessings of the Muslim Parliamentarians including Minister Fowzie. Minister Abeygunawardena invited everyone to join hands and address the issue. He appealed to the public not to give ear to any rumours and give their maximum support to live in their area safeguarding peace.
