Terrorism was a curse for the motherland. However, the Commander in Chief and the heroic soldiers succeeded in pulverizing terrorism.
If not the motherland would have plunged into anarchy further being overshadowed with the dark shadows of the terrorism.
The terrorists who took away the lives of two war heroes in the Dehiwatte area on 07th June 1987, thus embarked on their killing spree on 07th June during the dark era. The terrorists killed an innocent cultivator while he was working in his farmland in the Welikanda area on 07th June 1996. On the same day the terrorists mooted a powerful attack on the war heroes also in the Welikanda area. As a result 13 war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the country. Another terrorist attack was launched on a group of soldiers who were on foot patrol in the Jaffna area on 07th June 1997. Eight war heroes made supreme sacrifices in this assault. On 07th June 1998 the tiger terrorists mooted several attacks on the war heroes in the Mankulam area, taking away valuable lives of 25 war heroes. On 07th June in the year 2000, a suicide bomb attack was launched by the terrorists in Ratmalana. The suicide cadre exploded the bomb concealed in his body. As a result Minister C.V. Gunaratne and 22 more civilians were killed. Five war heroes were also killed in this suicide attack.
Terrorism which blighted the country in this manner was brought to an end on 18th May 2009. By then the terrorists had killed 27 civilians on 07 June during the dark period in addition to 76 brave soldiers. Accordingly the total number of lives taken away by the terrorists on this day was 103.
Following the fearless and unwavering decisions taken by President Rajapaksa as the Commander in Chief and under the guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa., the heroic soldiers succeeded in advancing in the humanitarian operations.
Overcoming all impediments, the brave soldiers achieved their victorious goal at the Nanthikadal Lagoon obliterating the terrorists due to their immense dedication.
Certain hostile forces are determined to destroy this peaceful environment. But the patriotic fraternity of the motherland will never permit such forces to raise their heads again.
The nation has proven this with clear evidence emphasizing that they remained with courage and strength with the Commander in Chief and the Government.
The people are clearly aware of the plans of these conspirators. As such the people will not permit for such an era to re-surface. The patriotic citizens have practically proved with evidence in this respect, further strengthening the Government as well as the State Leader.
These dark memories are being refreshed in these episodes that the nation may act responsibly in a manner that ensures such destruction would not recur. Action has been taken to display the photographs of the war heroes who made supreme sacrifices in the battle to rout terrorism and discharge a noble service as an honour to the sacrifices they have made.
