The funeral of S.D. Bandaranayake took place at the Chandrajothi Maha Vidyalaya in Yakkala this afternoon.
President Rajapaksa who visited the Madugas Walauwa in Yakkala paid his last respects to the remains of S.D. Bandaranayake. He met family members including Deputy Minister Pandu Bandaranayake and offered his condolences.
As a founding member of the Sri Lanka Freedom this great politician S.D. Bandaranayake discharged an invaluable service. He was 92 years at the time of his demise. He dedicated his services for the success of the first meeting of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party which was organized at the Town Hall in Colombo on the 02nd of October 1951.
S.D. Bandaranayake succeeded in entering Parliament winning all elections held from 1952 to 1977. He was a father of four children including Deputy Minister Pandu Bandaranayake. The funeral was held at the Chandrajothi school playgrounds in Yakkala this afternoon.
The Prime Minister and many Parliamentarians were present on the occasion.
