Devotees throng temples for religious ceremonies marking Poson

Temples throughout the country are congested with devotees in view of Poson Full Moon Poya. Pride of place is being given to religious observances.

Our correspondents reported that devotees in large numbers began thronging the historic Anuradhapura City from last afternoon. Devotees were paying obeisance to the Atamasthana in Anuradhapura and Mihintale. Sil campaigns were organized in almost all temples. All arrangements were made to cater to the requirements of the devotees. Our reporters said that more than 250 Dansalas were operative within the Anuradhapura Sacred Area on behalf of the devotees.

Religious programmes including Sil campaigns were operative at the Polonnaruwa historic Gal Vihare, the Somawathie Chaithya, the Dimbulagala Aranya Senasanaya and near the Medirigiriya Watadagaya.

Devotees in large numbers also gathered today at the historic Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. Devotees engaged in religious observances even braving the heavy rain that was experienced in the area. Several Dansalas centering the Sri Dalada Maligawa were operative for the benefit of the devotees.

Many devotees too had gathered in temples in the Northern Province in view of Poson Poya. A notable feature was the observance of Sil by these devotees who had come to the North from the Southern Province. Many devotees joined in religious programmes organized throughout today at the Madukanda Sri Dalada Raja Maha Vihare.
