The Southwest Monsoon is now active. Incessant rain will be experienced in the Central Hills.
Our correspondent reported that with the Southwest monsoon being active, heavy rains began lashing in the Western Slopes of the Central Hills from the early hours of today. It reported that a rainfall of 88 milimetres of rainfall was expericned from 4 am to around 8 am today. Castlereigh had experienced a rainfall of 30 mm, the Norton Bridge area 65 mm and Maoussakelle 25 mm.
Also almost all roads in the Central Hills are covered with thick fog. As such there is a danger of the occurrence of accidents. The Police have appealed to drivers to be cautious when plying on these roads. Also the Wimalasurendra Reservoir is over spilling at a height of around six inches.
The water level of the Kelani River is also reported to be rising rapidly. Authorities concerned have appealed to the people living in the environs of the river to be watchful.
