The Indian Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry has said that imposing economic sanctions against Sri Lanka is not a solution to problems.
The Tamil Nadu State Assembly has adopted a Resolution that economic sanctions should be imposed against Sri Lanka as a mark of protest to several issues including the fisheries problem. Expressing views in this respect India’s Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Nirmala Seetharaman emphasized that solutions to issues including the fisheries problem should be found through negotiations.
On Tamil Nadu fishermen being arrested by Sri Lanka continuously, she said Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was of the firm view that this could not be allowed to become a festering issue.
There are many ways of sorting out issues. But Mrs. Seetharaman underscored that the Resolution to impose sanctions is futile and baseless.
