India has seized 12 kg of gold biscuits allegedly smuggled from Sri Lanka through sea.
The Hindu newspaper reported that the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence during a sudden raid nabbed two persons, who attempted to smuggle the contraband to Madurai.
The gold weighing 12 kg was said to be worth nearly 80 million Sri Lankan rupees.
Sources said the contraband was smuggled from Sri Lanka and received at Pasipattinam near Thondi. The Hindu newspaper reported that the smugglers were carrying the gold to Madurai when the officials intercepted the car and arrested them.
