All arrangements are in place to accord facilities to the large
number of devotees expected in Anuradhapura for the Poson Full Moon Poya Day.
Measures have been taken to hold several functions centering the Anuradhapura and Mihintale Sacred Areas. The Poson Committee said that in addition to special protection, there will also be a special traffic plan in place. Drinking water and all other facilities of the devotees will also be met. Special trains and buses are also operating on behalf of the convenience of devotees undertaking pilgrimages to Anuradhapura from distant places. More than 1.4 million devotees are expect in the Anuradhapura Sacred Area for this Poson.
Special Police teams have been deployed to round up drunken drivers arriving within the Anuradhapura Sacred Area during the Poson Week. The Poson Committee has made a fervent appeal from the devotees to refrain from bringing polythene and plastic materials to the Sacred Area and support in maintaining the cleanliness of the environment.
The Police have also warned the public to be cautious when bathing in tanks.
