Party leaders to discuss about the UN probe team – Deputy Speaker

The Parliamentary Secretary General has received a proposal


that Parliament should discuss whether permission should be granted to the special Committee of inquiry appointed by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to visit Sri Lanka.

Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody said this proposal signed by nine MPs is due to be submitted to the Party Leaders meeting to be held on Friday.

The Deputy Speaker said that the Parliamentary Secretary General has received a proposal signed by nine MPs that the House should take a decision and a proposal forwarded whether it would be a black mark for Lanka’s pride as a result of a team appointed by the Geneva Human Rights Council visiting Sri Lanka to hold an inquiry. Mr. Weerakkody said that the proposal handed over by these MPs will be discussed at the Party Leaders meeting at the Parliamentary Complex on Friday morning and a decision taken on the future action.
