Poson Full Moon has been commemorated giving pride of place to religious observances. Many Dansalas and programmes were organized to mark this religious event.
The Lassana Hakmana Poson Zone is being successfully organized at the Hakmana Danny Abeywickrema grounds and the surrounding premises for the fourth occasion. The Poson Zone operative centering the Jayasumanarama Vihare in Hakmana was declared open under the patronage of Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena. Large crowds gathered to view the Poson Zone on the first day. In addition to a colourful pandal, there are also Poson lanterns and dansalas. A recital of devotional songs was held yesterday. Southern Provincial Councillor Pasanda Yapa Abeywardena was present on the occasion. The Hakmana Poson Zone will be operative until Sunday. The Mihindu Perahera organized for the 77th occasion is scheduled to parade the streets tomorrow.
The manioc Dansala organized under the guidance of the News and Current Affairs Division of the Independent Television Network to mark Poson was successfully held yesterday. It was organized at the ITN premises at Wickremasinghepura in Battaramulla for the second occasion. ITN Board member Hashim Omar, General Manager Aruna Wijesinghe, Media Coordinating Officer Chaminda Wickremasinghe and Deputy General Manager News and Current Affairs Sudharman Radaliyagoda were among those who joined in the opening of the Dansala.
The Mihindu Perahera of the Sri Subodharama Vihare at Wickremasinghepura in Battaramulla paraded the streets last evening. Mayor of the Kaduwala Municipal Council G.H. Buddhadasa was present on the occasion. The Perahera was organized under the guidance of Chief Incumbent of the Vihare the Ven. Okkampitiye Pagnatissa Thera. A Pinkama to release cattle earmarked for slaughter took place on the occasion.
