The President has requested to take forward the country while
protecting the culture and civility in a backdrop of religious renaissance in the country. President Mahinda Rajapaksa mentioned this while attending a ceremony at Wellampitiya Sri Wimalarama Temple. The President who arrived at the temple opened the six storied building after taking part in religious observances. The ceremony has been organized on the instructions of the Chief Incumbent of the Wellampitiya Sri Wimalarama Temple Venerable Labutale Sudassana Thera. The President pointed out that there was a religious renaissance in the country and requested everyone to dedicate themselves to take forward the country while protecting the culture and decency.
The President said that the village would be developed when the temple was developed. It has happened everywhere. There is a culture around the temple. The nation was protected because of the temple. If the society is distanced from the temple, the society will be deteriorated. He said that English language from Europe should be accepted but not the culture. We have a culture that we could be proud of. The President added that the unique identity of the Sri Lankans should be protected. Venerable Labuthale Sudassana Thera and the President exchanged mementos on the occasion. Anunayake of the Malwatta Chapter Venerable Niyangoda Vijithasiri thera, Maha Sangha, Parliamentarian Duminda Silva, Western Province Minister Upali Kodikara were present on the occasion. The President exchanged views with the people who were present at the temple. Meanwhile the President visited the Chief Incumbent of Athurugiriya Arya Nikethanaya Venerable Mawarelle Bhaddiya Thera in connection with his birthday. The President exchanged views with him.
